Self-Employment Assistance now supports existing small businesses too

Self-Employment Assistance has been expanded to include support for current small or micro business owners.

As part of Self-Employment Assistance, you will have access to 12 months of interactive learning led by an accredited small business expert as your mentor.

Whether it is a workshop to help you finesse your business plan or giving your skills a boost with accredited training, there is an option for you. 

Your learning materials will be available at all times through our comprehensive learning management system.

Your mentor will be with you every step of the way.

Existing business eligibility criteria

If you are an owner of an existing business, you now have support available to you.

Your business could be eligible if it:

  • Is not currently operating on a commercial basis, or is a micro-business at risk of not operating on a commercial basis
  • Has an independent business structure
  • Is lawful and capable of withstanding public scrutiny
  • Has been assessed as commercially viable by APM Employment Services
  • Will be established, located, and operated solely within Australia
  • Will be structured so that you maintain a controlling interest over the program business for the duration of your Self-Employment Assistance participant agreement

Our experienced team will get to know you and what your business needs.

Self-Employment Assistance is designed to give business owners access to accredited training and coaching to grow their existing business.

Our accredited small business training cover:

  • Developing a business plan
  • How to manage finances
  • Business Networking tips
  • Understanding resourcing and recruitment
  • What you need to know about regulatory, taxation and insurance requirements

Program training is delivered through face-to-face and online settings.

Access professional business coaching

Give your business a boost with support from experienced mentors.

In Self-Employment Assistance you will start planning for success and growth from day one.

Over 12 months, our mentors can help you take your business to the next level:

  • First mentor meeting within 28 days followed by monthly sessions
  • Support phone calls with your mentor
  • Opportunities to participate in small-business seminars or workshops
  • Access to Self-Employment Allowance and Self-Employment Rental Assistance where eligible

Business health checks

Existing businesses may be eligible for three one-hour Business Advice Sessions or a Business Health Check.

Our mentors will give you feedback and can recommend business support services in your area.
